Advantages & Downstream Application Fields of PET Foam Sheets

PET foam sheet is a high-performance eco-friendly foamed material. Compared with conventional EPE and EPS foam, it features superior heat resistance, oil resistance and full recyclability, witnessing rising market demand in disposable food containers, industrial liners and fresh food trays in recent years. Sheets manufactured by PET foam sheet extruders can be directly thermoformed into takeaway boxes and fresh trays, or cut into buffer liners for industrial goods with diverse application scenarios.

Compared with EPE, PET foam withstands higher temperatures and is suitable for hot food packaging. Post-consumption PET products can be recycled and re-pelletized, making them far more eco-friendly than non-recyclable single-use packaging under current low-carbon policies. Many packaging factories renovate outdated plastic extruders by replacing screws, dies and cooling forming structures to adapt to PET processing, eliminating the need for full equipment replacement and lowering investment costs.

Nevertheless, PET foaming involves complex technical thresholds. Pre-drying, extrusion pressure control and cooling forming all directly affect finished quality. PET absorbs moisture easily; residual water after inadequate drying leads to pinholes, broken cells or even sheet fracture during extrusion, causing massive material loss.

Many manufacturers only focus on main extruders while neglecting supporting drying, cooling and traction devices, resulting in unqualified final products. Auxiliary equipment is equally critical to the whole production line.

Downstream industries set stricter standards for PET foam, including uniform cell structure, tight thickness tolerance and reliable heat resistance, all of which determine subsequent thermoforming effects. Equipment suppliers keep optimizing machine structures to boost finished yield and expand PET foam’s industrial adoption.
